Itinerary

Templo de Diana in Évora, Portugal’s best-preserved Roman temple and UNESCO landmark, visited during the Lisbon to Évora Private Wine & Culture Tour by Lux Motion.

Visit the iconic Templo de Diana in Évora, the best-preserved Roman temple on the Iberian Peninsula and one of Portugal’s most important ancient landmarks. Despite its name, the temple was originally dedicated to Emperor Augustus in the 1st century AD, reflecting the emperor’s self-deifying cult. Its remarkable preservation is due to the fact that, during the medieval era, the temple was incorporated into a noble palace. Later, after the palace’s destruction, it found new life as an abattoir and even a wood store a unique journey through two thousand years of Portuguese history, now beautifully restored in the heart of Évora’s UNESCO World Heritage city

Capela dos Ossos in Évora, a 16th-century chapel lined with thousands of human bones and skulls, a unique stop on the Lisbon to Évora Private Wine & Culture Tour by Lux Motion.

Step inside Évora’s haunting Capela dos Ossos (Chapel of Bones) one of Portugal’s most unusual and thought-provoking monuments. This small 16th-century chapel is decorated with the bones and skulls of over 5,000 people, carefully arranged to form the walls, columns, and arches. Created by Franciscan monks following the Counter-Reformation belief that death is merely a transition to eternal life, the chapel invites deep reflection. Above the entrance, a chilling inscription reads: “We bones that are here, await yours.” As eerie as it is fascinating, the Chapel of Bones stands today as a symbol of faith, art, and mortality an unforgettable stop on your Lisbon to Évora Private Wine & Culture Tour.

Aqueduto da Água de Prata in Évora, a 16th-century aqueduct built by King João III with arches blending into the cityscape, featured in the Lisbon to Évora Private Wine & Culture Tour by Lux Motion.

Discover the remarkable Aqueduto da Água de Prata (Silver Water Aqueduct) — a 16th-century engineering masterpiece that once supplied Évora with fresh water from springs located 18 km north in Graça do Divor. Commissioned by King João III and completed in 1537, this aqueduct stands as a symbol of Renaissance ingenuity in Portugal. Its highest arches rise outside Évora’s medieval walls, while inside the city, houses and shops were later built seamlessly beneath its arches, creating one of the most unique urban landscapes in Europe. The name “Silver Water” refers both to the shimmering reflection of the water under the summer sun and to the astronomical construction costs, which nearly bankrupted the regional government. A fascinating stop on your Lisbon to Évora Private Wine & Culture Tour.
